Grant & Loan Awards: Banks County

Banks County

BRIDGE Fund: $355,535

Awarded: 06/14/2011

Applicant: DA of Banks, Habersham and Rabun Counties/Feasibility Study

BRIDGE grant funds to assist with fiber infrastructure to extend a fiber optic line from NGN (North Georgia Network) in Clayton County to the 977,000 SF multi-tenant Rabun Business Park. Purchased by the Authority in 2010, the shuttered Fruit of the Loom textile plant is being restructured. The NGN fiber optics project will reach southwest Rabun County and downtown Clayton. This proposed extension would bring high speed broadband connectivity five more miles to the Business Park. The Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority will begin construction on a new sewer line in November 2011 that will run most of the distance from Clayton to the Park, and they have agreed to allow a fiber optics conduit to be installed concurrent with the new sewer line. The telecommunications infrastructure is needed to provide a competitive business park that will attract and retain technology jobs to this region.

Total Budgeted Project Cost: $468,535
