Grant & Loan Awards: Candler County

Candler County

Equity Fund: $500,000

Awarded: 11/01/2006

Applicant: Candler County Industrial Authority

Equity funds to assist with the acquisition of 105 acres to expand the 111-acre Metter I-16 Industrial Park. In addition, the CCIA also has an option on an additional 95 acres of land, which could be used to attract a significant regional employer needing upwards of 200 acres. Given the park's proximity to I-16, Port of Savannah, and GA Southern University, the CCIA has an opportunity to provide jobs to surrounding rural counties including Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Tattnall and Toombs. With only 25 acres remaining in the current industrial park, the community is not able to compete for projects or attract any industrial prospects. A site analysis of the county conducted by Georgia Tech determined that the proposed acquisition was the best economic development alternative given the site’s proximity to the existing industrial park, access to I-16 and the availability of water and sewer.

Total Budgeted Project Cost: $2,488,610
