Equity funds to assist with the development of a regional comprehensive marketing/tourism plan to effectively position the Hwy 27 corridor and the associated 18 counties as a travel and tourism â€œdestination of choice.â€ The Hwy 27 Association was formed to promote economic development, tourism and the protection of cultural and scenic resources along US Hwy 27, which runs 352 miles along the western portion of the State. The Association's 18 member counties seek to build on their existing tourism industry and develop additional products. The group has provided $52,000 of in-kind work/investment to-date, and they recognize the value of developing key partnerships and alliances. These include working with GA DOT on their plans to four-lane Hwy 27. Add 18 counties
EDGE funds to purchase a piece of equipment, specifically, a Cincinatti AutoForm 350+ Hydraulic Press Brake. The Authority has applied on behalf of the Bobcat Company, a manufacutere and distributor of compact equipment for the construction, industrial, landscaping and agricultural markets worldwide. The Company plans to locate a manufacturing facility in an existing 81,160 SF building (former Blaw Knox Building) in the Carrollton Industrial Park. The facility will be dedicated to the production of attachments, the largest growth area of their business. This project will create 100 new jobs with private investment of $8.59 million. This project is in competition with Minnesota and North Dakota.
EDGE funds to purchase a CISCO 6513 Switch in support of the location of an in-bound customer service reservations center for AirTran Airways. AirTran, one of America's largest low-fare airlines, is interested in locating in a 7,200 SF building in the Glen Eagles Professional Park in Carrollton. Carrollton is in competition with Tallahassee, Florida and Newport News, Virginia. The project will create 220 new full-time and part-time jobs within four years (approx 154 FTE positions.)
Equity funds to construct/rehabilitate a mixed-use, small business incubator to help foster entrepreneurial development. The 24,454 SF facility selected for the incubator is located in the Carrollton Industrial Park on a six-acre site. Approximately 75% of the facility is oriented to offices and are suited to a wide range of tenants, ranging from blue-collar service industries to technology-oriented firms. The remainder of the facility will accommodate light-manufacturing concerns. The incubator will serve 14 counties in western Georgia and be located within the West Carrolton State Enterprise Zone. This project involves strong public participation such as partnering with Carroll Tomorrow, who will provide ongoing marketing and management. In addition, Georgia Techâ€™s Economic Development Institute will locate their regional office directly in the incubator.
EDGE funds for site work, water main extension, sanitary sewer main extension, and access roadway extension. Decoma International will construct and fully equipment a 300,000 square foot facility on the greenfield site located adjacent to the existing Carrollton Industrial Park. This project will result in approximately $85 million of capital investment by 2004 and create 300+ jobs.
Equity funds to assist in the construction of a facility in Bowdon to accommodate up to 80 children for the KidsPeace Georgia Residential Program for Children. Market research has revealed that over 300 Georgia children are on waiting lists for specialized residential treatment. The construction of the facility will address an urgent need for Georgia's children as well as create 81.5 jobs and generate an estimated annual payroll of $4 million in a Tier 2 community. The program will serve male and female youth from ages 13 - 18 years.
