EDGE grant funds of $360,000 are awarded to assist with the location of a manufacturing and distribution facility for Big Tex Trailer Manufacturing, Inc. (Big Tex). Big Tex is a leading manufacturer of flatbed utility, equipment and dump trailers in the United States. The Company is expanding into the Southeastern United States to gain market share by locating in two existing buildings that consist of 178,000 square-feet on 56 acres in Cordele’s Industrial Park. Big Tex began operations in 1981 in Texas and has manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and sales outlet stores in several states including: Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and California. The Company has 700 employees.
Equity loan funds to assist with road widening improvements along Frontage Road and Kelly Road to State Route 300 in order to open up the area to commercial development opportunities and encourage tourism to the area by accommodating the heavy traffic from I-75 and SR 300. The City of Cordele is located in Crisp County in south middle Georgia in a federally designated Empowerment Zone. Crisp, Dooly and Wilcox Counties have some of the worst poverty levels in the state. The proposed road improvements would increase the number of customers willing and/or able to access businesses along Frontage Road. Businesses to benefit from the road widening improvements are McDonald’s, Flash Foods, Papa’s Southern Meats and Eats, Back Woods Outdoors and Shelby’s Market Place. These Companies and the developer have provided a firm letter of commitment that assures the creation of 68 jobs and the provision of $7,960,648 in private investment.
ESB loan guarantee to support the start-up of T.J.'s Italian American Restaurant, a moderately priced 80 seat family style Italian-American restaurant. The loan will be used to purchase equipment, furniture, fixtures and leasehold improvements. T.J.â€™s Italian American Restaurant, named for and once owned and operated by Tom and Jan Sears, was a successful business in Cordele for 20 years. The Searsâ€™ son Robert Sears plans to re-establish the same friendly atmosphere and good food provided by his parents for many years. Future projected expansion of the business in 4 to 6 months will offer a full delivery service menu. Planters First Bank in Cordele is the lender.
ESB loan guarantee to expand Moore's Monument and Vault Company, an existing business in Cordele that has been in operation since 2002. The owner, Tony Moore, is buying out another vault company to expand his business. The lender is Planters First Bank in Cordele.
EDGE funds to assist with the purchase of the former Wescast facility, a 149,000 square foot building located on approximately 30 acres in Cordele. This acquisition is in support of Goldensâ€™ Foundry and Machine Company's (GFM) efforts to remain competitive in the global market. GFM, a 124-year privately held business located in Columbus, manufactures gray iron and ductile castings as well as power transmission machinery. The Cordele facility will focus on the production of ductile iron castings for the industrial, oilfield, truck, pump and compressor markets. The company has committed to create 100 new jobs in two years and private investment of $5 million.
EDGE funds to assist with the extension of the Heart of Georgia Rail line into Cedar Creek Corporate Park along with a rail spur and two side tracks to support a proposed Flexible Duct Media Insulation Manufacturing Plant. The Authority has applied on behalf of Owens Corning, the world leading innovator of insulating systems and producer of fiberglass and rigid foam insulation products. This project is in competition with Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. The proposed manufacturing project will create 110 new jobs growing to 250 jobs within three years.
ESB loan guarantee to support Sunshine Academy Daycare. The facility will specialize in excellent daycare services for parents with young children at competitive prices. Sunshine serves children 6 weeks old to preschool and through elementary in an after-school program. Loan funds for building acquisition, equipment purchase and building and ground repairs.
EDGE funds to assist with improvements to a 77,000 square foot building on 10 acres of land in Cordele's Fairway Business Park and purchase an adjacent 7.5 acre tract that will be leased by MBM Corporation. The company intends to locate a distribution center in this facility and create 80 jobs. Cordele is in competition with Phoenix City Alabama for the project.
Equity funds to construct a 100,000 SF industrial speculative building on a 30-acre site in the Cedar Creek Corporate Park in order to attract new industrial prospects. This project is the result of the county's original industrial park reaching maximum capacity.
Equity funds to provide water and sewer infrastructure to a 238 acre industrial park. Capitalizing on a strategic location, the park is approximately one mile from the Ga Hwy 300 and Interstate Hwy 75 interchange. Improvements include 7600 LF 10-inch sewer main, 15,988 LF of 12-inch water line, fire hydrants, 7,395 LF of 6-inch sewer force main and sewer pump station.
EDGE funds to assist the Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Development Council in constructing a 30,000 sq. ft. facility to house the Engineered Stone Products manufacturing facility.
EDGE funds to complete the build out of an existing speculative building. Company has committed to locate in Cordele if the funds can be procured. Otherwise, they will place it in Abbeville, Alabama. This project will create 50 new jobs.
Equity funds to assist with construction of pedestrian platforms along 42-mile route of the planned Southwest GA Excursion Train. Train will stop at 8 area attractions in the region including former President Carter's boyhood home.
EDGE funds to assist with purchase of machinery and equipment to be leased to Dayco Precision, Inc., a centerless grinding company providing services to the automotive, aerospace, marine and aircraft industries. Company expects to create 8 jobs at start-up.
