Equity funds for the purchase of a 41,800 square foot packing facility, office building and 17 acres of farm land in Claxton/Evans County for the expansion of BFG Produce, LLC (BFG) to expand its agribusiness. BFG was formed in 2006 by parent company, Buurma Farms, Inc., a producer and distributor of over 60 different vegetables, with farms currently located in Michigan and Ohio. BFGâ€™s first season (2006-2007) was in Claxton and consisted of 100 acres of carrots and experimental trials of parsley, cilantro and dill. The Company plans to expand these operations, focusing primarily on the jumbo carrot market, and commits to creating 20-25 full time permanent jobs within the first two years of operation. Evans County has a large workforce and this project will greatly benefit and fit into the strategic plan of the county and region.
E 9-1-1 funds to assist Candler County, through an Intergovernmental Agreement which establishes a regional system that includes Bulloch County, Evans County and Candler County and serviced through Bulloch County, the one-time start up costs to establish E 9-1-1 service. Total cost of this project is $1,218,117. The E 9-1-1 funds would be used to assist in the purchase of equipment as well as mapping and addressing costs to serve the 9,577 residents of Candler County. E 9-1-1 calls from Candler County will be received at the Bulloch County Emergency Answering Center in Statesboro and then dispatched to the various emergency and law enforcement agencies in Candler County.
Equity funds for improvements to Industrial Park (extension of water lines and sewer lines; construction of roadway; construction of rail spur) needed to develop site for Ogeechee Technical College Workforce Training Facility and other development taking place in the Claxton-Evans County Industrial Park.
