BRIDGE grant funds will be used to support the implementation of a 260-mile open- access regional fiber ring. The project includes construction of 135 miles of new fiber which will connect to 125 miles of leased dark fiber assets to create a ring traversing 12 counties, providing service in 7 underserved areas (Lumpkin, Union, White, Dawson, Habersham, Rabun and Towns). The open network will bring Gigabit speeds and the reliability of dual route redundancy to 245 anchor institutions across the region including 152 government facilities, 82 public schools, 7 colleges and 4 hospitals while also supporting deployment of FTTH for +/- 24,000 households and businesses. OneGeorgia funds are requested to equip 39 Service Point of Presence facilities along the 135 miles of new fiber. Proposed architecture is state-of-the-art, including 2,600 interconnection points.
