Grant & Loan Awards: Pulaski County

Pulaski County

Equity Fund: $500,000

Awarded: 06/14/2011

Applicant: Middle Georgia RDA/ Infrastructure

Equity grant funds to assist with construction of water and sewer infrastructure throughout the Hawkinsville Technology Park in Pulaski County to enhance development capacity and marketability. Located 37 miles south of Macon between US Hwys 341 and 129, the 232-acre Technology Park was established in 1999 to attract industry and commerce to the region. Local investment of $2.2 million includes property acquisition and the construction of a 100,000 SF spec building in 2001. This project proposes installing 8-inch and 12-inch PVC sewer mains and 6-inch to 10-inch water mains throughout the park. Additional proposed water infrastructure improvements include the installation of an elevated storage tank, booster pump and controls. As a capacity-building project, no jobs will be created immediately. The Authority estimates that the proposed infrastructure improvements could attract a company that would create 100 jobs. The Park will be primarily marketed to aerospace firms, food processing, distribution, light manufacturing facilities and call centers. Despite prolific marketing and economic development efforts, the Park has located only one business, and the spec building remains vacant. Lack of water and sanitary sewer service throughout the Park is considered to be a primary factor in the lack of current private investment in the Park.

Total Budgeted Project Cost: $2,750,300
