Description:
EDGE funds to assist with the acquisition of 30 acres of land in the Hudson Industrial Park in Griffin for the location of Sumika Polymer Compounds America, Inc. (SPCA). SPCA, a joint venture of two Japanese based companies, Sumitomo Chemical Company (SCC) and Toyo Ink International Corporation (TI), will construct a 90,000 SF facility to manufacture polypropylene compounds for use in the automotive industry as bumpers and other components. SCC is a manufacturer of polypropylene compounds and has an existing operation in Houston, Texas that it operates in partnership with Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. TI’s specialty is coloring technology. Both companies have a combined two centuries of business experience. This project will create 50 new jobs and $30 million in private investment within two years. Georgia was in competition with Tennessee, Alabama and Arkansas.
