Grant & Loan Awards: Treutlen County
BRIDGE funds to assist with the cost of a feasibility study to design and engineer a high speed wireless broadband network between the City of Dublin and the Treutlen County Industrial Park. This network link will connect the new Range Fuels Plant located in the Treutlen County Industrial Park in Soperton to the City of Dublin’s network data center. The objective of the feasibility study is to provide immediate broadband service to Range Fuels’ new bio-fuels plant currently under construction in Soperton. It is essential that Range Fuels have access to a broadband width that will allow for real-time transmission of data from its plant in Treutlen County to its headquarters in Denver, Colorado. Currently, the availability of this essential wireless capability through the local telephone operator, PlantTel, in Treutlen County is non-existent. However, the City of Dublin is only 20 miles away from the plant’s new facility and has almost unlimited capacity to the largest internet connections in the Southeast. This foundation could potentialy benefit a multi-county area.
EDGE funds for equipment acquisition and street improvements to locate a cellulosic ethanol plant in Treutlen County. Range Fuels, Inc. (RFI), a privately held company headquartered in Colorado, focuses on the development of alternative, clean (green) energy systems, including the conversion of biomass materials into fuel-grade ethanol. RFI plans to construct a highly modular, scalable cellulosic ethanol plant on 110 acres in the Treutlen County industrial park near Soperton. The Company will convert pine tree scraps and other biomass into ethanol, to be used as a commercial alternative to fossil-based fuels. At full production, the plant will produce about 40 million gallons of ethanol and nine million gallons of methanol annually. As feedstock, it will use approximately 1,200 tons per day of wood residue with a preference for utilizing wood waste from nearby timber harvesting operations. RFI will create 69 new jobs for the Treutlen County area. This project is in competition with other unnamed states.
Equity funds to enhance infrastructure in the Soperton-Treutlen County Industrial Park. The Industrial Park, located along GA 29, consists of approximately 175 acres of which approximately 140 acres are available. However, the remaining acreage cannot be served by the current infrastructure. The project consists of constructing water, sewer and roadway improvements to existing systems that will allow continued development to the County’s Industrial Park. This project will enable a Tier One County to attract potential industry and create jobs.
Equity funds for manufacturing equipment necessary for the operation of a shirt manufacturing plant under contract to the U.S. Navy. Will provide jobs, training, transportation for handicapped in a multi-county area.
