Grant & Loan Awards: Wayne County

Wayne County

Equity Fund: $499,576

Awarded: 06/14/2011

Applicant: Wayne County/Road Infrastructure

Equity grant funds to assist with the construction of an entryway road into the new US 341 Regional Industrial Park to increase the prospects of attracting industry to the region. Wayne County is located in southeast Georgia approximately 20 miles west of Interstate 95 and is also served by Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines. The Park is strategically located on US Hwy 341, yet lacks the infrastructure needed to attract business. Dirt roads currently provide limited access to areas of the Park and are only suitable for SUV type vehicles, preferably with four-wheel drive capacity as the roads become extremely hazardous and, in some areas, impassable during wet conditions. The project includes construction of a deceleration lane, drainage, railroad signals and approximately 250 LF of roadway from the entrance into the park. The county’s current unemployment rate is 12% and a vital part of attracting new industry lies in creating infrastructure access to the 450-acre Park. Once a prospect is secured and committed, the IDA will move forward to obtain funding for the total build-out of the access road and water and sewer infrastructure. With Altamaha Technical College’s main campus located in Jesup, Wayne County and the region boast a large and well-educated workforce ready for employment.

Total Budgeted Project Cost: $1,648,820
