OneGeorgia Authority

Nearly $8 million in OneGeorgia EDGE, Equity and E-911 grant and loan awards were announced in August. Governor Perdue, who chairs the Authority, pointed out that “These awards support the creation of nearly 700 new jobs for Georgians as well as the retention of 350 jobs in a variety of industry sectors including manufacturing, food processing, distribution centers, value-added agriculture and human services.”

Toombs County Development Authority (American Standard/Trane)

In January 2003, the OneGeorgia Authority awarded $340,000 in EDGE funds to the Toombs County Development Authority to pay for building access improvement costs (including road improvements and sidewalks) and communication infrastructure costs for American Standard Companies, Inc./ The Trane Company. The Company was looking to expand its operation in Vidalia, Georgia by opening a facility that would manufacture electric heat assist units which are installed in air handlers. American Standard Companies, Inc. is a global, diversified manufacturer of high quality, brand name products in three major product groups: air conditioning systems and services, plumbing products and vehicle control systems.

The Toombs County Development Authority provided a 60,000 square foot building to the Trane Company located in the Toombs Corporate Center. Upon receipt of the EDGE award the Development Authority began work with the Trane Company to complete the necessary building access and communication infrastructure improvements. As of the first of April the construction and improvements were 90% complete. The Company is currently moving production equipment in the building and production is to begin by the end of April. Trane Company committed 67 jobs and training for these employees has begun.

City of Milan OneGeorgia Edge Award 03ge-134-2-4139

The OneGeorgia Authority awarded the City of Milan a $150,000 grant on March 5, 2003 under the EDGE fund. Funds will be used for site preparation, road and rail improvements to serve Dash Multi Corporation's new facility in Milan. Dash Multi Corporation, a holding company, started in 1973 and is composed of companies that produce a variety of plastic raw materials, coated fabrics, and flooring products. The company plans to create 15 new jobs and to make a private investment of over $708,000.

Construction is underway for Dash Multi's new 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on a 6.3 acre tract of land on U.S. Highway 280 in Milan city limits. This facility will process crumb rubber (scrap tires) into rubber logs, from which it will further produce rolled rubber products (friction mats and other items). Rail construction is planned for this month with project completion in three months.

JDA of Brooks, Colquitt, Grady, Mitchell and Thomas Counties - OneGeorgia Edge Award 01ge-MCR-3-4001

The OneGeorgia Authority awarded the JDA a $1,500,000 grant on January 11, 2001, under the EDGE fund. Funds were used for the acquisition and rehabilitation of a former meat processing facility located in Moultrie. Farmland National Beef is a division of Farmland Industries, a Fortune 200 company. Farmland National Beef is the fourth largest beef processor in the United States and supplies over 10% of the beef consumed in the USA. The project planned to create 163 new jobs initially and to make a private investment of over $8,000,000.

The acquisition and rehabilitation have been completed. The Moultrie facility consists of a 90,000 SF building situated on 100 acres. Both job creation and private investment have exceeded expectations. Private investment reached over $12,000,000. Currently, Farmland employs 350. In addition, there are $1,000,000 in upgrades planned that are anticipated to create additional jobs.

ALBANY-DOUGHTERY PAYROLL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

In March 2002, the OneGeorgia Authority awarded a $1,000,000 EDGE grant to the Albany-Doughtery Payroll Development Authority. The PDA renovated and converted the space from a standard retail facility to a sophisticated state-of-the-art technical service center and then sub-leased the property to CallTech Communications, Inc. This CallTech center provides technical customer service support for BellSouth Internet Service consumer customers, primarily for ADSL connectivity issues. Project construction began in March 2002 and was completed in June 2002. CallTech Communications, Inc. promised the community 150 jobs at startup. On June 11, 2025 they began taking "live" inbound technical support calls with 187 agents on duty.

As of March 2003, CallTech employs over 500 persons with consecutive training classes scheduled at intervals throughout the remainder of the year. Due to the location of CallTech Communications, Inc. in Albany more than 500 individuals have upgraded their technical skills and have experienced an increase in wages/benefits.
