Trey Childress
Director, Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget
Trey Childress was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue as Director of the Office of Planning and Budget on July 5, 2007. The Office of Planning and Budget is responsible for the support and development of the Governor’s annual budget recommendations in addition to providing strategic planning support and conducting program evaluations for state government.
Prior to this recent appointment, Mr. Childress served as Director of Policy for Governor Perdue. Childress led the research and development efforts for the administration’s policy and legislative agendas, as well as served as a senior advisor on health and human service issues. Before Governor Perdue’s election in 2002, Mr. Childress served as the Perdue campaign’s director of issues and research.
Mr. Childress began his career in state government working with the former Information and Technology Council, assessing the state’s information technology assets and preparing for Y2K conversions and planning. He has also worked with the Georgia Technology Authority, assisting in the early start-up efforts of the agency and later worked for the Office of Planning and Budget’s Planning, Research and Evaluation Division.
Trey Childress earned a Masters of Science in Public Policy, a Bachelors of Science in Industrial & Systems Engineering and a Bachelors of Science in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
