Grant & Loan Programs: AIRGeorgia
The Airport Initiative in Rural Georgia (AIRGeorgia) recognizes the critical role of progressive rural county airports in economic development. The AIRGeorgia Fund is intended to accelerate the completion of critical airport infrastructure improvements, thereby placing every Georgian within a 30-minute drive of an airport capable of serving 85% of the corporate aircraft flying today.
Program Overview
AIRGeorgia provides grants, loans and grant/loan combinations to Finance Level I and Level II airport improvements. Proposals including collaboration and regional partnerships with public/private ventures and multi-county impact receive the greatest consideration.
Who Can Apply?
Local governments and authorities as well as multiple-county development authorities in designated rural counties. Eligible applicants should also be recognized as an official Airport Sponsor by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and/or Federal Aviation Administration.
Eligible Projects
Airport runway extensions to 5,000 feet, installation of navigational aids and automated weather observing stations, acquisition of real property for expansion, limited planning, environmental studies and technical assistance.
How it Works
- Grant funds are available for publicly owned airports.
- AIRGeorgia grants or loans are not limited in total amount. Assistance amount will be determined following consultation with the GDOT.
- Generally, funds awarded will be limited to 75% of the eligible project cost with matching local investment of 25% required.
- Applications are accepted at any time.
